Festivals

Since no celebration or event is complete without a festival, we have compiled a small list of some of the festivals that are held on Tahiti throughout the year.

New Years Day – This festival is celebrated each and every year and the Tahitian tradition is to spend the day driving around the island, making visits to friends and family all over the island. There are also small games and festivals held all over the islands for everyone to enjoy.

Chinese New Year – This festival is held on the date that is given by the Chinese calendar for the Chinese New Year and is always a very colorful and lively festival. This festival is usually followed by a Grand Ball, where everyone has the chance to sing, dance, eat, and drink until their heart's content.

St. Valentine's Day – Since Tahiti is called the “Island of Love”, there is no better place in the world to celebrate this holiday. All over the islands are traveling entertainment, such as musicians, artisans, and food vendors, just waiting to help you make the most of your romantic holiday away.

The Coming of the Gospel – This festival helps to commemorate the arrival of the first missionaries to Tahiti. Each year in March, this festival is held around the islands, and is enjoyed by all no matter if you join in or just watch.

Tahiti Dive Festival – In mid-March, the Tahiti Dive Festival is something to be enjoyed by all. Not only will you have a chance to learn or hone your diving skills, you will be able to do it alongside some of the top diving societies in the world throughout the beautiful waters of Tahiti.

Commemoration of the Arrival of the Bounty – This annual festival is held each May and pays tribute to the arrival of the Bounty in Tahiti.

Heiva I Tahiti Festival – This is the largest of all the Tahitian cultural festivals held throughout the islands of Tahiti, and is normally held in July of each year. Not only can one enjoy beautiful folk dancing, but also dancing competitions, sports, foods, art, and even demonstrations on some of Tahiti's most famous cultures.
